Exhibition ‘Lines of Deconstruction’ by Stela Vasileva

Our world consists of solid structures, but the light shaded on them decides about the shapes we perceive. The Bulgarian artist in residency Stela Vasileva follows the geometrical definitions of the urban landscape and searches in between the sharpness of edges for ephemeral moments of shifting contours. The presence of light is mirrored in the tones of shadows which blur the lines between consistency and temporality.
Vasileva observes these dialogues and captures them in sensitive and fragile drawings. Back in the studio, complex glass sculptures, including found objects from her long strolls through the city, explore the interaction of constructions and illumination in a phenomenological dimension. Vasileva invites us to experiment with our vision through her objects, follow the forms and get lost in the multilayered options of structures and their appearances.

Please feel cordially invited to the opening on Sept 15 at 6 pm.

Residency

We’re excited to announce our autumn 2022 Bulgarian residency artist Stela Vasileva! She will be staying at roam from mid-August until mid-September. The residency will end with an exhibition during Art Week Berlin.

In collaboration with Structura Gallery, Sofia and Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation.

Stela Vasileva works in the field of the object, the installation, and the drawing. She explores the form, the objects in space, with the main attempt to unload the objects of any superfluous elements, while also putting it out of the context of its concrete (ordinary) environment. In doing so, she often erases the boundaries of real space.

Ruf Award (2010), Nominations for the BAZA Award for Contemporary Art (2013-2015) as well as various residences including KulturKontakt, Vienna, Austria (2012), Krinzinger Projekte, Petomihalyfa, Hungary – Vienna (2012), Cité Internationale des arts Paris, France (2014).
